When making this album - I decided to focus on loss.
The grief, anger, fear and acceptance of impending loss - loneliness felt after, and agitation of knowing something or someone is gone.
But also the hope that comes with it. Struggling to accept hope, after pain, knowing that if you get better, and hope - you set yourself up to lose something again. Wondering if it's ok and when it's ok, to feel better.
With this song - I wanted to focus on hope. Theres a joy, and a calm that comes with hope after loss, some turbulence as well, and uncertainty. Despair and desperation are at the root of hope. But hope is taking care of that despair, by taking care of oneself, and taking care of those around us, and accepting a chance of joy, love and happiness, back into that space.

Generally I tend towards writing instrumental songs. But theres something about the human voice that can be reassuring, in ways that is unique. I had been a fan of Llynks work, for a bit - even when she was releasing work as Sarah Kendall. Though we didn't really know each other outside of social media - and she lived in Texas at the time (me in NYC) - I still thought I'd love if she could sing on this.
She has a powerful yet controlled way of expressing her voice. She's rarely overbearing - but you still feel a direct certainty in her words.
I reached out, and was ecstatic, when she said she'd love to be on the track. We exchanged files back and forth, and eventually finished this track, which has become one of my favorite works in my catalog.
It's helped me work through some emotions, and I hope for others it will also be somewhat cathartic.
lyrics
So long
I have been drawn to you
So strong
I hear that calling
You float a way and
Carry the colors from me
I watch
Falling from what I knew
You are
All that I’ve wanted
Across the earth
Search and search away for you
The echoing, shuffling of the leaves (nightfall summers eve)
Reminds me of when you were here with me
All this yellow green, falling from above
I try to catch any sign of what was once love
Try to hear you
Try to feel you
Try to exist in something
Try to hear you
Try to feel you
Try to exist in something
drawn to you
drawn to you
drawn to you
drawn to you
So long
I have been drawn to you
So strong
I hear that calling
You float a way and
Carry the colors from me
I watch
Falling from what I knew
You are
All that I’ve wanted
Across the earth
Search and search away for you
One of my favorite albums, by one of my favorite artists. I love the adrenaline rush, of NEO TOKYO - but Cult of 2112 is the most epic synthwave song I've heard. Type: V
I listened to Bergschrund, on repeat when it first came out. I hate to overplay a song - so I don't often repeat plays in a row. But I loved all of the glitches, and cuts. Type: V
